SUMMARY:Chamber Music Mega Weekend 2026
DESCRIPTION:The annual Chamber Music Mega Weekend was founded by Helene Poh
 l in 2014 (then known as the Queen’s Birthday Chamber Music Weekend).  
 Its aim is to help young groups entering the national Chamber Music Contes
 t reach beyond what they thought they could achieve in chamber music perfo
 rmance.  Along the way many life skills are learnt and much fun is had. 
   It is a three-day intensive with each group receiving multiple coaching
 s from Wellington’s best chamber music teachers\, performing in a master
  class and in a public concert.  It is open to pre-formed groups only\, a
 nd has had groups from Wellington\, Christchurch\, Whanganui and the Hawke
 s Bay participate.  It is held annually at the beginning of June.  In 20
 25 it was run in conjunction with the Pettman Academy\; this year it’s f
 ully under the auspices of the newly incorporated Wellington String Academ
 y.\nThe 2026 Weekend is fully subscribed with 10 groups from Wellington an
 d Christchurch participating.\nThe final concert will take place at the Au
 ditorium of Marsden School\, Karori\, at 2 pm Monday June 1. It is free an
 d open to the public.\nTUTORS:\n\n 	Helene Pohl\, Anna van der Zee\, Lynle
 y Culliford and Konstanze Artmann (Aroha Quartet)\, violinists\n 	Sophia A
 cheson\, violist (NZSO)\n 	Rolf Gjelsten\, cellist\n 	Bridget Douglas\, fl
 utist (NZSO)\n 	Alex Hambleton\, horn (NZSO)\n 	Richard Mapp\, Beth Chen a
 nd Nicole Chao\, pianists\n\nImmerse yourself in a whole weekend of music 
 with experienced and enthusiastic tutors.\n\nDevelop new chamber music ski
 lls through intensive coachings\, lots of rehearsal time\, and master clas
 ses.\n\nIdeal final preparation for the NZCT Chamber Music Contest.\n\nWar
 mup sessions Saturday and Sunday morning.\n\nCoachings and master classes 
 Saturday and Sunday\, dress rehearsal and concert Monday.  \n\nWe would 
 like to accommodate all interested groups but with space and time restrict
 ions it is possible that we will have to select participating groups from 
 the applications received.\n\nWe have been successful in fundraising for t
 his Weekend and are able to offer this exceptional experience for the nomi
 nal fee of $150 per group/3 days or $120 per group/2 days.  All players m
